OUR STORY
In 2001 Coach Patti made a proposal to the Washington Township Recreation Center in Dayton, OH, to start a diving lesson program. She started with one beginner class of 8. Now, we have three beginner, two intermediate, one advanced and one high school lesson at WTRC each session. In fall 2008, Patti started the WTRC Dive Team with twelve divers. In early 2016, we blended with a northern Kentucky team that was disbanding. With about 35 members on the OhK Diving Team, combined with about 20 divers in the WTRC lesson program, we have approximately 55 divers currently in our entire diving program. In September 2018, we changed our name to OhK Diving, reflecting our divers from both states. Since we began our team, we have taken divers to AAU Nationals and USA Diving junior nationals every year. We have had 12 Ohio high school state champions, 7 Kentucky high school state champions, 15 AAU National individual champions and 28 USA Junior National semi-finalists and finalists. In 2014, our team placed third at the AAU Nationals out of 59 teams. In 2019, we placed sixth at AAU Nationals out of 80 teams. 51 of our divers have gone on to dive in college; 38 at the D1 level with various athletic scholarships, 13 at the D2/D3 level.
OUR PHILOSPOHY
The goal of OhK Diving is to teach the fundamentals of springboard diving, proper technique, how to compete and have fun while doing it. Diving is an individual sport that develops both good physical awareness and mental confidence. As a diver achieves more difficult skills, they develop stronger self esteem. As a team, divers build off each other’s confidence to elevate the entire level of the team. These skills are ones that are useful in all walks of life.
